Bophut Beach
Calm Gulf water and long-tail boats off the sand at Fisherman's Village.
About this view
This camera looks out from Fisherman's Village onto Bophut Beach, on the sheltered north shore of Koh Samui. The water here faces the Gulf of Thailand rather than the open sea, so it stays flat for most of the year — long-tail boats sit at anchor a short way out, and Koh Phangan is visible across the channel on a clear day.
The sand is a working beachfront rather than a resort strip: restaurants open straight onto it, boats come and go, and the pace is slower than Chaweng or Lamai on the other side of the island.
This is a north-facing coast, which makes it the island's sunset side and the reason this angle is worth keeping open. Thailand is UTC+7. December to March is the dry season; the monsoon proper arrives around November, when this shore takes the weather.
