Port of Singapore
Cranes working container ships at the world’s busiest transshipment port, with a lo-fi soundtrack.
About this view
This is one corner of the busiest transshipment port on Earth. More containers pass through Singapore on their way somewhere else than through anywhere else — around 40 million a year — and Tanjong Pagar is one of the older city terminals where that work still happens in full view of the skyline behind it.
The cranes set the rhythm, and it becomes hypnotic once you watch for a few minutes: gantries tracking the length of a hull, boxes lifted, swung and set down in a sequence that never quite repeats. Tugs nudge arrivals into their berths, bunker barges come alongside, and the anchorage beyond is rarely empty. The stream runs to a lo-fi soundtrack rather than dock noise.
Singapore runs on UTC+8 and a port never closes, so there is no wrong hour on this 24/7 live cam — though the floodlit night shifts are the most photogenic. Worth watching while it lasts, too: Tanjong Pagar and the other city terminals are being moved out to the new mega-port at Tuas, and this stretch of waterfront is planned to become housing and parkland.
