Live Webcams in Wolong, Sichuan

Wolong, high in the mountains of Sichuan west of Chengdu, is the giant panda's ancestral country, and the live webcams in Wolong look into the enclosures of a conservation base set among its bamboo slopes: pandas feeding on the ground, sleeping in the forks of trees and, in cub season, learning to climb, with the mist of the reserve rolling through behind them. Watching it live is watching a species come back from the edge. Wolong keeps China Standard Time, UTC+8, with no daylight saving, so the pandas' active morning falls around 00:00 to 03:00 UTC and the afternoon is for sleeping. The base at Gengda was built after the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake wrecked the old one, and the last national survey counted some 1,860 pandas in the wild, enough to move the species off the endangered list.
