Live Webcams in the Makgadikgadi

The Makgadikgadi, in northern Botswana, is the bed of a lake that dried out thousands of years ago, and the live webcams in the Makgadikgadi are pointed at the only thing that matters here: water. They sit at pumped waterholes on the open pans, on the bank of the Boteti River where it cuts the western edge, and on the cliff above it, looking down on the crossings. Botswana's zebra make the longest land migration in Africa, a round trip of some 500 kilometres, and the rains from December to April bring them here in their thousands, with elephants, giraffe and the black-maned Kalahari lions on their heels. The dry months empty the grass and concentrate everything that stays on the water.
