Live Webcams in the South Rift

The South Rift, the stretch of Kenya's Great Rift Valley between the Maasai Mara and Lake Magadi, is safari country almost nobody visits, and the live webcams in the South Rift are a rare window on it: the spring-fed pools below the Nguruman escarpment, on community land where zebra, giraffe and elephant drink alongside Maasai cattle. The valley keeps East Africa Time, UTC+3, with no daylight saving; the animals come in the cool of early morning, around 04:00 UTC, and again in the last hours before dark, around 14:00 to 15:30 UTC. Lake Magadi, the soda lake at the southern end, is so alkaline that its crust has been mined for soda ash since 1911, and flamingos feed on its shallows. The dry months are the ones to watch, when the springs are the only water for miles.
