Popocatépetl is the volcano that stands over central Mexico, 5,426 metres high on the line between the states of Puebla and Morelos, and the live webcams around Popocatépetl watch it from the villages and towns on its flanks: the farming villages of the Puebla side a few kilometres from the crater, the city of Puebla to the east, and the pass of Paso de Cortés between it and its sleeping neighbour Iztaccíhuatl. The volcano woke in 1994 after decades of quiet, and some 25 million people live within 100 kilometres of it. November to April is the dry season and the one to watch.
