Live Webcams in Embleton, Northumberland

Embleton, a stone village on the Northumberland coast a mile inland from its bay, has the ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle at one end of the beach and some of the darkest skies in England overhead, and the live webcams in Embleton use the second: the northern sky from the edge of the village, where the aurora shows on strong solar nights and the Milky Way on ordinary ones. It is a patient kind of watching, rewarded a few times a season. Embleton keeps Greenwich Mean Time, UTC+0, and UTC+1 in British summer, so full darkness comes by five in the afternoon in midwinter and not until eleven at night in June. The castle was begun in 1313 by Thomas, Earl of Lancaster, and has been a ruin since the Wars of the Roses. September to March for the sky; summer for the beach and the castle walk.
