The Otago Peninsula, the long green headland reaching out from Dunedin into the Pacific, is one of the great wildlife coasts of New Zealand, and the live webcams on the Otago Peninsula sit with its most famous residents: the albatross nests of the windswept headland at the peninsula's tip, where royal albatross parents brood, feed and eventually launch a chick over the sea. Dunedin keeps New Zealand Standard Time, UTC+12, UTC+13 in summer, so the peninsula's morning falls in the late evening of Europe and the American afternoon. A northern royal albatross carries a wingspan of some three metres and can be away at sea for days between visits to the nest. Eggs are laid in November, hatch in late January and February, and the chicks fly by September; November to March gives the longest days.
