Live Webcams in the Namib Desert

The Namib Desert, along the Atlantic coast of Namibia, is the oldest desert on Earth, and the live webcams in the Namib Desert watch the one thing that makes life possible in it: the remote waterholes of the gravel plains, where oryx, springbok, ostriches and jackals appear out of the heat haze, drink, and walk back into nothing. The desert keeps Central Africa Time, UTC+2, with no daylight saving; the animals come in the cool of early morning, around 04:00 to 06:00 UTC, and again toward dusk, around 15:00 to 17:00 UTC, and the night sky over the waterhole is one of the darkest anywhere. The dunes at Sossusvlei, the postcard of the region, rise past 300 metres, among the tallest in the world. June to October is the dry season, when the waterhole is busiest.
